Lutheran High School of Indianapolis officially opened its doors on August 30, 1976, as a school for
Christ-centered secondary education to fourteen students in grades 9 and 10 at 4100 South Post Road
(the old Franklin Township High School) under the tutelage of five faculty members.

Since that time, it has experienced steady growth and there are currently over 300 students
enrolled under the able guidance of over 20 faculty members. From the school's inception,
the beacon has steadfastly remained.

  • Lutheran High School is open to students of any race, color, and creed who desire a
quality education in a Christian environment. While the majority of our student body
is Lutheran -- Baptist, Catholic, Church of Christ, Methodist, Presbyterian, and other
religious denominations as well as unchurched families are represented in our student body.

  • Lutheran High School is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and
High Schools, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and the Indiana Department of Education.

  • Lutheran High School is owned and operated by the Greater Indianapolis Association for Lutheran
Secondary Education, an association of Lutheran congregations whose purpose is to provide
Christian education for the youth of their churches and the community.

Congregational funding and student tuition form the majority of support for the operation of the school.

Additional support and resources come from annual fund raising events, LuFest, Sports Boosters, Music Boosters, and from many individuals and groups who actively support the school through their gifts, their time
and talents, and their prayers.

It is through the efforts of these many friends of Lutheran High School that the tuition charges are less
than the cost of education.
