Christmas time seems the perfect time to ponder whether or not you like social networking.

Which kind - old school or new school?

Old school social networking took place at church, work, over the fence, and at parties.

New school social networking happens on Facebook (you can become a fan of Lutheran High School of Indianapolis), Twitter, LinkedIn (Join LHSI's group), MySpace, texting, email, IM, YouTube (check out the first of a series of LuFest commercials - search LuFest) and so on and so forth.

It's somewhat amusing to watch our son (home for the holidays from college) while he watches TV, works on a puzzle, or is online - because his phone beeps or buzzes or vibrates about every 30 seconds.

It's a text!  His fingers fly as he quickly replies to whatever the question of the second happens to be and then resumes his previous activity.

Me, I'm all about email, but I'd rather talk with you on the phone once then spend time texting and getting my thumbs tangled in knots for 20 mintues trying to type ' u r 2 clse nt 2 stp.'   LOL, I can't even do this with a full keyboard!

I know, my age (advanced age) is showing.  While I think it will be a while before I'm dragged kicking and screaming into the textsphere, I am trying to keep it going with Facebook and LinkedIn and email.

Still, it's not the same is it?

I'm sure thankful this Christmas that God didn't just text, fax, email, or even snail mail His plan for salvation 2010 years ago.

While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.  Luke 2: 6-7

To borrow an old line from an old FTD campaign, we can be thankful that our Heavenly Father cared enough to send the very best!
